Pre-Kindy

Kids on Carrington’s Pre-Kindy education and care room has 20 toddlers each day between the age of 2-3 years. We have four educators each day, the group leader has a diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and the three assistants will have either a certificate III or diploma of early childhood education and care. We provide consistent educators in the Pre-Kindy room throughout the week and use the same pool of relief educators when our full time educators are on annual leave or sick leave.

Outdoor Environment

The Pre-Kindy outdoor environment focuses on teaching our children about developing a sustainable lifestyle. The children have the opportunity to care for our chickens and collect their eggs, they also care for our vegetable and herb gardens.
The sand pit in the Pre-Kindy room contains a water feature which recycles the water it uses, which teaches the children about water conservation. We have a designated bushwalk in the Pre-Kindy outdoor environment which incorporates a Yarning circle. This allows children to engage in small group interactions with educators and peers.

Educational Programs

Educators at Kids on Carrington take a holistic approach to observing and planning for young children. We use influences from sociocultural theorist Lev Vygotsky. Vygotsky believes that children learn by engaging with adults and more capable peers. We achieve this by interacting with children on an individual basis as well as small group and large group experiences.
Each child in the Pre-Kindy room is observed on a regular basis and an individual experience is planned for them. Their observations and planned experiences are kept in their individual learning journal which is available to be viewed at any time in the education and care room.
